Camp Overview

As a participating host location, you are responsible for providing the main location/learning environment for students to complete their HMSE program, along with the personnel, tradespeople and volunteers to staff your camp. You’ll work with a dedicated HMSE liaison throughout the process, and will receive an easy-to-follow timeline to help stay on track.

Heavy Metal Summer Experience Camp Overview for Hosts

All HMSE camps are customizable to meet your needs, and include multi-week sessions, week-long sessions and condensed camps. No matter which camp style best fits your needs, we request that camps target 30 hours of instruction.

Camps should begin with a student check-in to gather any missing forms or permission slips, and daily check-ins for students to retrieve their temporary work badge and change into their work boots and PPE. Training and projects will depend on your specific industry and site capabilities. All camps styles should end with a graduation ceremony, where students receive a medal and Certificate of Completion from the program.
